Commissioned and printed by the New York City Department of Health, 1989; Two (2) offset lithographs (see photos); 17 x 11 inches, 43.2 x 27.9 cm (EACH): Striking examples, in both English and Spanish, of Haring's advocacy work. Designed by the artist shortly after his own diagnosis, these flyers were hung throughout the city to raise awareness and help direct those in need of assistance. The first public hotlines for HIV and AIDS related outreach were created in 1982 by Rodger McFarlane at Gay Men's Health Crisis, while the ones advertised in these posters were printed some seven years later by the city of New York, well after the virus had become a pandemic. Hotlines were incredibly important as misinformation, classism and bigotry were rampant in regards to the crisis. These heavily inked lithos have been very well preserved and remain bright and clean. From an unknown edition size and scarce in any condition, considering these were printed by the city and intended for public display.
Historically important publications by Keith Haring.
