Unique, authenticated silkscreen print on Strathmore drawing paper, with the 'Estate of Andy Warhol' (verso) and the 'Andy Warhol Enterprises, Inc. 1978' (recto) inkstamps, annotated WP890.52, A694.115 and with the initials 'VF' in pencil on the reverse. A very good impression of Warhol's iconic 'Electric Chair' - the source image being a press photograph of the death chamber at the Sing Sing Correctional facility in New York in 1963. Warhol began using the image of the electric chair in the same year (the year of the two final executions in New York State). Over the next decade, he repeatedly returned to the subject, reflecting the political controversy surrounding the death penalty in America in the 1960s. This unique print was originally framed with a matt, concealing the full sheet edges and the 'Andy Warhol Enterprises, Inc.' ink stamp (front, bottom left). It has since been removed from the original, outdated frame and has been professionally cleaned, humidified and pressed, and archivally framed to museum standard. The original Vrej Baghoomian Gallery label which was attached to rear of the original frame is also included.
